Studies show that young people age 12 through 25 are at the most risk for medication addiction. Opioid abuse and addiction can lead to overdoses that slow breathing and can potentially be fatal.
Use the following advice to help fight opioid abuse:
Refuse any pills that someone offers you and encourage them to destroy the pills properly.
Securely store any medications of your own and never offer them to someone else.
If you find prescription opioids at home, leave them alone or have the person whose name is on the label lock them up or dispose of them.
Warn your friends about the dangers of medication abuse and inform them that 4 out of 5 heroin addicts start by abusing painkillers.
